Day 9 - Thursday - Santiago

June 13th, 2019

Everyone is tired but excited to have a day in Santiago without hiking boots.

Starting at kilometer 0 at the center of Praza do Obradoiro in front of the cathedral, we received a tour of the surrounding buildings that represent 10 centuries of architectural styles.

The original Romanesque church was rebuilt several times above the crypt of St. James and is now a Baroque style building protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Because it is currently under renovation, We attended the Pilgrim Mass at noon at a neighboring church with about a thousand worshippers, before heading  to lunch at Casa Camille for the ultimate Galician seafood feast.

Yes, there was some shopping in Santiago. Pilgrims have done that for centuries too!

Capping our day was a restful bus trip to the coast about an hour away to experience the sunset at Cape Finisterre, once considered the edge of the world. Beautiful!

Walking the Camino de Santiago has been a glorious physical and spiritual exercise. We are so privileged to have experienced this with some of our Good Shepherd family!
