Good Shepherd Lutheran Church / Saturday, June 8, 2019 / Categories: Camino De Santiago Day 4 - Saturday - Portomarin to Palas de Rei June 8th, 2019 We don't yet see things clearly. We're squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won't be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We'll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us. 1 Corinthians 13:12 This verse describes our second day of walking. As we woke up and looked outside we were greeted with a heavy fog. As we crossed the river at Portomarin we headed straight up a very long hill. The fog began to lift as we crested that first hill. Today’s route took us along main roads, open fields, villages, and working farms. We followed the yellow arrows and were greeted throughout the day with sunshine and camaraderie. We even met a blind priest who stamped our Camino passports. Some saw ferrets or witnessed the birth of a calf! In many ways today was more challenging. We were tired from Day 1, covered another 15+ miles, and climbed nearly 1000 feet in elevation gain. The day ended with devotions and another delicious dinner. Some even had scallops served on Camino shells! We are looking forward to a good night’s sleep with a shorter route tomorrow.
